The ComEd Energy Efficiency Program provides energy-saving offerings specially designed for income eligible customers to easily improve home and building energy efficiency.
Some offerings allow customers to take control of their own energy costs at home while others are designed for property owners, managers and developers. Either way, eligible customers can reduce energy use and start saving.
Homeowners may qualify to receive free weatherization improvements and free installation of ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs, programmable and smart thermostats, advanced power strips, faucet aerators, showerheads, pipe insulation and more. ComEd has partnered with the Chicago Bungalow Association, the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) and community action agencies to help customers take advantage of these energy-saving services.
To qualify, ComEd customers must meet household income at or below 80% Area Median Income. Getting started is simple. Contact a program service provider below—they’ll determine if you qualify and help you take your first easy step to energy savings.
ComEd customers may qualify to get home energy upgrades with the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP). Contact your local community action agency to get started.

Community action agencies help customers become more energy efficient by delivering kits to qualifying customers. Kits include energy-saving LEDs, power strips, faucet aerators and more, plus important educational information on energy-saving actions customers can take to reduce their energy bills. Customers can save money and energy with expanded instant discounts on ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs at their neighborhood retailers.
Food banks affiliated with Feeding America use their local food pantries to distribute free ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs provided by ComEd.
Building owners and managers whose buildings are designated as income eligible may qualify for comprehensive energy efficiency retrofits in common areas and tenant spaces. Improvements may include free ENERGY STAR certified LEDs, programmable thermostats, advanced power strips, boiler tune-ups, and more. Rebates on weatherization projects are also available.

Public Housing Authorities can receive technical and financial assistance to make energy improvements to their properties. Services include energy assessments and direct installation of high efficiency products such as lighting and thermostats, plus deeper savings measures with HVAC and weatherization. Eligibility is limited to the state of Illinois designated Public Housing Authorities in the ComEd service territory.

Affordable housing developers can receive technical guidance and incentives for single-family and multi-family new construction and major renovation projects that increase the energy efficiency for income-eligible households. Education about energy efficiency best practices is an integral part of the program. Incorporation of specific whole-building energy efficiency measures is required.
